Oscar and Barbara Scott host the "Give A Hoot For Kids" field days as a way for inner city children to learn more about where the food they eat and the clothes they wear come from.  During this event, the kids visit a working farm and learn about animals and plants. Give A Hoot! is held annually in the first full week of May.

Give A Hoot! is an educational and agricultural endeavor for young people to learn about the environment, farm life, agriculture, and the conservation of our natural resources.  It is a week long event sponsored by Oscar and Barbara Scott on their farm for inner-city youth and urban school children.  Activities provide students a chance to participate in an environmental education event relating to agriculture, conservation, forestry, and life on a farm.  A growing partnership of community volunteers, local vendors, area businesses, Hamilton County SCD, SE TN RC & D Council, teachers, local school officials, and government agencies provide information and implement the event.

Give A Hoot is held annually in the first full week of May.  To help sponsor or volunteer for this event, please call Oscar and Barbara Scott at 423-892-2009.

The event began 15 years ago as Farm Day, which was a one day event at Scott's Farm.  Due to the increased demand and the reception of the concept, it was decided to expand it into a week long event.  At the steering committee planning meeting it was decided to name the event "Give A Hoot For Kids!"  This has resulted in additional participation and more volunteers and partners joining the team.

The goal of this project is to provide an educational and fun-filled event for inner-city school children to learn about our environment, farm life, agriculture, and the conservation of our natural resources.
